this-is-our-music.pngThe Vision return with yet another EP, and if there last recordings were anything to go by, we should be looking at something pretty good. It seems that the band are slight perfectionists, every time I’ve seen them they say they can do better, they aim high and their recordings for the TRUST Ep had a deft kick to them. Now a bit further down the line, these Northampton lads have unveiled their more recorded work in their latest demo, “This Is Our Music”, which has already received a decent amount of appreciation.

“Stand Up” starts us off on the recordings with a simple but effective guitar line that forms the base of a melody that drifts along to very sharp beat that nails down things quite tightly. It’s at the chorus that the song really gets strong with the vocals coming into their most powerful moments and those trademark layers of vocals, synths and other melodies give the track a peak that is almost reached by the breakdown that takes things in a similar way but beefs things up before the track. On their own the different parts are pretty simple, but altogether the whole track has a balance to it that’s quite detailed with the volume but not overly complicated that the hooks go unnoticed.

If you got the last EP, you will recognise this little gem, “TRUST” returns once again and we can’t really half blame them, it’s one of the stronger tracks in their repertoire thus far and in that frame of mind, rightly so remains at the forefront of their musical assault. Last time the track sounded alright, but this time around “TRUST” has been remastered a bit and those few tweaks have done the track a lot of good, sounding a whole lot more clearer and a with a lot more punch. Other than that there isn’t really much of a change, I don’t think anyone would have it any other way to be honest, it already hammers along with a lot of harmonies and a rapid pace so you couldn’t really ask for much more.

There’s no joking when I say that the last track, “This Is Our Music”, begins with the sounds of a spaceship, the synths are deep, dank and quite massive. Needless to say, this particular track focuses a lot on the more technical sounds of the band and has has a bit of a darker edge. The sound is once again a simple one. The track does have a lot of promise, but the vocals don’t always fit together on the harmonies and it could potentially be as busy as TRUST, so instead we get something that is more of a chill-out track, something to listen to in the background, it sounds great but just not in the same way as the other tracks, it’s as if it’s a bit more of a clubbing tune and it certainly wouldn’t sound out of place on a night out.

Once again we are at a similar conclusion to the Trust Ep that was released last year, it’s all quite well and the Cd has more on it to bolster it while the production values are of a good standard with layer upon layer of sounds that give a bit of a free-flowing depth, the band are certainly on the right track. The only worry is that with all the bands in a similar vein coming up and those that are already established like the Klaxons and the Prototypes, the Vision have jumped on a fairly large bandwagon and hopefully not too late, if it is the case then they have to see how they can set themselves further apart from the rest of the synth-indie crowd, something that shouldn’t be a problem for these guys who always seem to aim that little bit higher all the time, hopefully we can see the guys going into braver territory and really claiming a niche.
