waffles.pngOne of my pet peeves about some journalists is a tendancy to waffle, even I do it if I hazard any guesses, but this article is devoted to a couple of select articles that caught my eye. To set this straight before I head in on this, remember that this isn’t a tirade against NME or Q or whatever else, they have good writers who write articles that I enjoy reading. This is for all the poeple who write articles that are shoddy and miss the point so much that they are a waste of a page or two, read on if you don’t mind my bile.

The Vision @ The Pitz What a difference this week. Last week may have been a bit too quiet but tonight the crowds are looking a lot healthier. Once again it’s one of those nights where I don’t know much about half of the bands, but half of the fun of the Blitz is seeing those new bands too. The lineup tonight consists of three-piece grooves from Rusty G’s, some alternative rock from Stonebroke, the Vision with their mixed bag of synths and guitars and the Tombstone Bullets with some sweaty, dirty rock n’ roll.

stanislav.pngWhen Stanislav went through their heat at the Blitz, they also had a Cd on offer which I immediately bought and checked out for a while. But this wasn’t just a bundle of a few recordings, this was a fully fledged Lp of 10 tracks and by the sounds of it, not one that has been rushed. I know I’ve thrown the Smiths label around quite a bit with this band, but it’s time to take a serious look at their reportoire after spending some good time listening to what is undoubtedly a fine piece of work.

fade-away.pngThe last heat of the Blitz was a pretty good one with a very energetic Rusty G’s beginning the night with some heavy riffs and funky grooves that you just can’t bottle up. They may have not made it through to the final but they certainly made a good impression and I jumped at the chance to grab one of their Eps, called “Fade Away” a three-track introduction to the band. But with such a lively show at the Pitz, can the band capture the same sound and energy they show at their live performances?

latarche.pngI guess Cd reviews don’t always have to be Cds, here’s a second instalment of the Myspace music reviews. This one is about a fairly young lady who seems to be making a good start on the acoustic scenes, especially at open mic sets like The Cannon and The Sno! Bar, named Jade Latarche, though there aren’t any Eps (yet, mind you) there are quite a few recordings suggesting a pretty solid reportiore that have been built up over the past two years and could be a sign of things to come.

osvaldo-bellomo.pngWell, it’s a bit of a late one this week, I had a million ideas for the week’s blog but they were all half-baked. Until I graced upon the wonders that are Facebook and Youtube, making contact with someone who I haven’t talked to in ages and finding out a true gem that threw me back a bit. So in the end I decided to write a little story on how I found out what I did and show it to all of you guys to check out. I give you three names to look out for Giacomo Palmieri, Simone Sammarone and Osvaldo Bellomo.

Acacia Close@ The PitzWe’re back once again, you know the drill, but you didn’t seem to be there. Rise Inside and Stanislav are through but it’s one of those nights that is for the relative underdogs, though the mix of genres doesn’t suffer quite so much. Heading up the gig are metal-heads Temples Burning, while Sovrin and Taylormade provide some garage and punk rock respectively. Finishing off the night are a group of guys called Acacia Close, who seem a little harder to pigeon-hole.

Work That Pole! With Shout out of action, it seemed that things weren’t looking good for the guys at Sabotage, but they managed to rescue things and move on to a new venue, with a twist. Sabotage can now be found behind the doors at the Phoenix Strip Club in the Leisure Plaza, the opening night was on Monday and it was a great turnout along with a good atmosphere without the sticky floors.

egg-on-faces.pngAnother Blog, and I’m afraid I’m going to sound a bit of an ass on this one, but bear with me… Being a “journalist”, I get a few perks like the odd free entry or hanging around backstage, but there’s one perk that keeps me going most than others, I love to be proved wrong! Now, this isn’t me being a pessimist or anything like that, but I like to think when I give a less than positive review, the people in question think I’ve got it wrong and go to prove it on the stage, which is definitely where it counts.

Stanislav @ The PitzReturning to the Pitz once again, I find myself looking at the lineup for the night, noting a possibly tough decision for the judges tonight, though I’m not expecting many big surprises like last week, it’s certain that the night should be a strong one. The mix is still healthy tonight, garage rockers Stanislav opening up while Februa give us some obligatory metal, Meggidddo get their doom on and we’re treated to some indie rock from Buick McKane. The question, as ever, is who will make the grade tonight…
