SoaD have a hand in EurovisionLove it or hate it, Eurovision is on it’s way. This year, I think I may actually be tuning into it voluntarily if the rumour I’ve heard is true. I was sat watching various funny videos on youtube (extreme boredom calls for desparate measures!) when my little brother burst into the room and starts shouting rather frantically at me.

Dissolved In @ UnderpassA bit of a pop-punk night, this one. Down at the Craufurd on a Saturday, feeling a bit worse for weather but still braving the large volumes with a note-pad and camera in hand. To be honest, this was a bit of a decision to make, just take shots or go the whole hog? Though the whole night was a groggy, headache-ridden, maybe unfocused affair on my behalf, upon hearing the first few bands I was decided, may as well write about it while I was there, especially seeing the fairly decent turnout…

Picore, being sorely missed…It’s 1.30 in the morning and I know I shouldn’t be up. But I had to do another blog sometime and I found something quite good to write about that was (for once) not geeky or egocentrical. As I and many of you understand/theorise, the MK music scene is a bit like a bubble, a hard one to break out of but also to break in. It’s barely February and I’ve seen a few accounts of this happening, it’s not that people dislike their music, it seems that they can’t be bothered to try and stand around for some non-locals.

Firetype @ The PitzBack at the Pitz on another Friday to see another set of bands, tonight featuring some local talent and a little bit more from further afield, it’s mostly a noisy one tonight though, with some progressive work from Men of Unitus, Picore and Meggidddo. Also featuring are Zeitgeist who took part in the Band Blitz and Firetype who are headlining with a bit of a return and a few new tricks up their sleeve, though admittedly I’m most interested in seeing what Picore have to offer, I’m just a sucker for anything new…

Planets @ BackstageBack at the Backstage once more for 2009, the venue for the younger audiences which made a return late last year, down in Stantonbury Campus. The return seems well taken too with a nice fairly bulky turnout tonight. Featuring alongside some talent from the establishment’s Rock School are a couple of local bands who are no strangers to the venue, being Blue Foot and the rising post-rock infusion that is Planets. Two bands for two little squids is not too bad, so as the title suggests…

James @ The Sunset LoungeI remember the days when “Ukulele” was a battle cry for this place, when you’d only get a handful of acts and when you could easily navigate the room for your next pint. It’s funny how things change and take-off over time, even if it is for the better. But prepared for a read, this one has about eleven people taking to the Sunset stage, it looks like the Cannon is definitely the place to hit in Newport Pagnell on a Thursday night for all your live acoustic music (and possibly alcohol-based) needs.

Buick McKane @ AnnotazioniIt’s 2009, it’s cold, it’s at the Craufurd on a Saturday. It must be Annotazioni’s first gig of the year, with a treat of five bands on for three quid, that’s definitely a lot of bang for your buck. There’s a good few local alternative names on, with Re-Writing Destiny, Altersketch, Thesocalled and Buick McKane, plus an interesting name from out of town known as Ivy’s Itch. Thing is that it’s a late start with the gig still not starting until after half-eight, how this is all going to fit into one night, I’ll never know…

Abadden @ BeatdownIt’s 2009! And we’re hitting the ground running at full pelt and maybe stumbling a little too, but tonight we’re at the Sno! Bar with Beatdown once more for a rather interesting gig. With a long story cut fairly short, the Beatdown guys started off with three bands, then they had two bands and finally had four bands at the end of the night. Mathematically, it’s a boring equation that no-one should really care about. Musically, it can only mean one thing though, a thoroughly heavy night…

Exit Ten @ The PitzIt’s that time of year again, but this year we opted to cover the Pitz Christmas bash, besides, Rivers and co. have been doing them for a while so they have a good idea how to do them. Last year we had Teen Spirit that was pretty good, but seemed to only drag out the Nirvana fans. This year it’s totally different with a lot of kids around for the action. The bands on range from the locale (Altersketch, Rise Inside) and the more established names of Bury Tomorrow and the irrepresable Exit Ten.

tips-2009.pngHello, what sort of music website would we be if we didn’t give you a few tips for the coming year. And yes, we are aware that we’re almost a week into 2009 but both Craig and I are busy men (apparently)!

So, here are Ampjam’s bands/artists that we think you should really look out for in 2009…
