Sucioperro, going wild at the Craufurd...
I’ll tell you one thing for free, Sunday gigs are a nightmare sometimes. Not for us but I do have to hand it to the promoters, Sunday is usually a pretty quiet day with low turnouts. But not tonight. Sucioperro are in MK and it seems quite a few people have turned up to get a piece of the action and who can blame them? Support comes from a couple of local names too, local two-piece Buick McKane and also from Firetype are having a blast tonight…

The awesome projector work, quite a novel idea...

The weather outside is fantastic and actually quite warm, this is where 2009 really begins! And it’s also where MaD begin putting on events for this fresh year, the first being the first “Serve Chilled” and it’s an apt name in more ways than one. The hall of Christ The Cornerstone is a pale blue (note the projection above, a genius idea from the guys), the date is on the border of the winter and the acts on are a collection of some of the finest acoustic talents in MK.

Glenn Tilbrook still rocking it out in Cardiff, 2004

(Image from The Unofficial Glenn Tilbrook Site)

Recently, we got the go-ahead from the great guys at the Stables to do some reviews down there, opening up a whole new avenue for us at AMPjam. The thing is that I take pride in the fact that we try to not specialise ourselves too much and we cover things that aren’t just metal, punk or anything else that can be classed alternative, we cover things like the Sunset Lounge as much as Beatdown, The Pitz or Underpass Promo…

superman_logo_royal_shirt1Is there such a thing as a saviour of the music industry? I’ve been pondering this for a while now. It all happened after I heard about Idlewild’s bold new stance on releasing their record, giving fans the opportunity to pre-order their new album before it had actually been fully written. Bold move, yes. But labelling as the saviours of the industry is just a bit excessive methinks.

Thesocalled, no sign of stopping for these guys...

Back in the cold week we had a fortnight back we managed to get an interview with Thesocalled, though judging by the weather we were surprised it went ahead. Still, in the Craufurd it’s a bit warmer and there’s beer too, so it seems that it’s all going ahead to plan. After we all get a beer we manage to cop a few seats and get talking as the snow begins to hammer it down outside.

The Dirty Youth, sexy & smart like the perfect date...

Valentines day, if there was an equivalent of the Christmas Scrooge for this one then that would be me. That said, I still managed to enjoy myself at a certain gig organised by the Beatdown boys. As ever, it’s a free entry affair and strictly for over 18′s, especially looking at the lineup of punk queens Maeven, the shameless Showgirl Suicide and all topped off by the one and only Dirty Youth. In other words, a bit of a dirty night, just forgive the useless pun…

The Voodoo Glow Skulls, one of the best gigs in my life.

I’m always quite amazed by how supersticious people can be, especially when it comes to the dreaded “Friday the 13th”. Since 1869 and possibly even further back the whole concept of paraskavedekatriaphobia (fear of the particular date) has become widely known and gets a bit of a bad rep. As for me, it just reminds me of one of my favourite gigging adventures…

Ouse Valley Snowed Under

What a week! We were warned about the snow coming up but we never quite expected what we recieved. Kids were off school, some of us older ones were off work due to the magical effect of snow stopping everything. But maybe it’s what we needed, with all the political bull and a heavy year ahead, we probably needed everyting to halt to let us reflect and clear our minds. However the music also died down a little…

Rock School Riot @ The PitzIf you went down to the Pitz on Friday, you would have been treated to yet another competition, this one being the Rock School Riot, organised by MK Rock School and featuring a lot of bands from local schools who have fought their way to the finals tonight, each band getting just two songs to make an impresiion! Prizes are a range of giveaways from the likes of Rockhopper Studios, Talkin’ Headz, Hobgoblin, Marshall and The Pitz. Let’s just say it’s a hefty amount of kit for the various lucky winners…

Last Of Our Heroes, punk rock with grit...

Down at Beatdown once again for some free live music. Tonight’s gone down to two bands once again, with one or two bands unable to play. But at least we’re left with a couple, one I’m familiar with and the other not so much. The first are Thracia, a four-piece blend of punk and metal that I haven’t seen in action for some time. As for the second, it’s a fairly new punk band on the local scene called “Last Of Our Heroes” who seem to have dragged quite a crowd down for the night…
