Seethe bring the metalcore to the Sno! Bar...

Back once again in the Sno! Bar for some metal and a beer. Once again the lineup is a relatively short one with only a couple of bands on which leaves the gig starting a little later than usual. First off are the Northampton borne metal-mongers No Remedy who’ve brought their riffs to the fore, though the main attraction for tonight is none other than the mighty metalcore of Seethe who have returned to MK to stir things up in any potential mosh-pits…

Musik 4U, live, loud and loaded in 2007.

(This article is about an event that took place in 2007)

Sunday is a new day and also totally different for day two of the Big Moo, a slight shift means that most of the early acts are DJs and dance crews which is entertaining in itself, but we’re here to see the bands so I grab my acoustic out and have a strum backstage. Sunday also comes with a lot of rain at the start too, many of the stage crew, performers along with me and Steffi get under the cover of the backstage tent, once again the acoustic comes out and things develop a bit more with a cover of the James Bond theme being created with vocals, guitar, harmonica and some slick freestyle rapping from the gaggle formed out the back…

Jeffree Star, Myspace Electro Queen at The Craufurd...

If I’m honest, this is the first gig this year that I’ve honestly been incredibly excited about and if I wasn’t there reviewing, I would have been there anyway!

Symbo- Hard-edged, trendy punk rock at Backstage...

It’s that time of the month again, nothing to do with ladies but the next Backstage gig. The last one was postponed which was pretty unfortunate, but this month has the guys and girls of Stantonbury back on track. Going down in the diner today are a trio of bands who we’ve covered before, but have all been pretty interesting, for one it’s good to see Symbo again, who we hadn’t seen since last year, plus support from Re-Writing Destiny who are gaining more ground and Equinox, some young lads who did pretty well at the Rock School Riot…

The Jilted Generation bring back the 90's at the Craufurd...

Like any decent minded 20-odd year old, I remember dancing to the sounds of The Prodigy for some time in the 90′s, a band that’s been quite influential, crossing genres and still going quite strong. I guess it comes as a surprise that there’s only one tribute band of these guys, enter The Jilted Generation. The premise is a bit simple for this one, a load of banging Prodigy tunes at a belting volume!

Protest The Hero: Gracing the Pitz.

Back at the Pitz and back to a pack of heavy bands for Sunday, and this one’s been attracting quite a bit of attention with Canadian progressive metal heads, Protest The Hero, making it down to MK through a pretty hectic touring schedule, supported by experimental noisemongers “The Chariot”, the metal melodica of “The Human Abstract” and marking a return to the playing-field for Acacia Close. It’s looking a hell of a busy one tonight, proof that The Pitz is still looking quite healthy for time to come…

Hello one and all, if you have been reading or paying any attention to my past blogs you may remember me getting quite excited about a northern 3 piece band called Jack Daniels Fanclub even tipping them to be big this year.

Unfortunately, the three have decided to call last orders and move on musically. On their website they say “this has not been a snap decision its one we have been discussing for a while now and due to personal circumstances we are not able to give our band the time and dedication it needs.” They also added that there were no hard feelings or fall outs within the band.

The decision comes just weeks after their song “City Of Sin” being selected to receive airplay on BBC Radio6′s introducing show with Tom Robinson. Although, they’ve not ruled a reforming out I think it’s safe to call this a day. Drummer John Kershaw joked saying “we were never going to be huge, we were just never generic enough!”

It’s a shame really that such a promising band had to split so soon into their budding careers, but I’m sure you’ll all raise a glass of Old no. 7 and remember the JDFC.

On their myspace is their “one and only success” City Of Sin and a mix of all their best songs very nicely compiled by drummer John.

Oli Brown, blues incarnate @ The Pitz...

Back at the Pitz on last Saturday to kick off our Pitz double bill for the weekend. Starting us off is a bit of a blues night which is quite different from what you may usually find around these parts, but the crowd is still particularly busy and just as enthusiastic. And why shouldn’t they be? Tonight marks Oli Brown’s entry into MK on his current tour and he is without a doubt of the UK’s best and youngest players of the blues. Support comes in the form of the Silver Brazilians, a local band likened to a “Surfabilly Clash” that are currently making some waves with their “Kate Winslet” track…

Vicky Stuart with a chilled audience at the Craufurd

We seem to be spoilt for choice these days when it comes to Open Mic nights, with fairly long-going regulars like the Sunset Lounge and Sno! Bar offering a chance for both budding and seasoned musicians to have a go at playing their hearts out. The recent re-addition of the Olney Wine Bar (thanks to Chris Dobbs and Gary Murphy) has gone down well and now there’s yet another chance to string your guitar up while you wind down. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Craufurd Open Mic.

Duke Of Marmalade, livening things up @ The Craufurd...
With Sucioperro behind them and getting in even more acts from out of town, Underpass seem to be on a roll. Looking back, the setup has come a long way from the crates and monitors at Zaks and the year is still looking a fairly serious one. Taking the helm for this night is a rock quartet under the name of “To The Bones”, coming down from Bolton to have a dabble in the MK scene. The support can’t really be knocked either, from what I’ve heard, Duke of Marmalade have been doing quite well and Firetone opening the gig up can’t be bad either…
