Ginger & The Wildhearts, a top-notch night...

(This particular gig was a good-un from a while back (May, 2007 if I memory serves well…) and one of the best Pitz gig I’ve ever had a chance to check out, this review hasn’t seen the light of day for a while though, but it finally makes a return today. Ladies & gents, I give you Ginger & The Wildhearts)

This gig has been anticipated by quite a few people, myself included. The mere name is unsuprisingly known throughout the world of rock and the Pitz gig has generated a lot of interest in the region, hell with it, theres even a daunting queue at the bar. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past god-knows how long, then the Wildhearts are a long running band with geordie frontman, Ginger, taking the lead through some hard hitting rock that will take more than a few sentances to describe. If you’ve been living with the full knowledge about The Wildhearts, you know exactly what to expect, so buckle up!

Spit Like This: Sex, Drugs and Heavy Metal @ The Pitz

Back to The Pitz tonight, and this time it’s pretty much sleaze central, Spit Like This are the main players tonght fully decked out in leather, fantastic hair and big riffs. Supporting them in their incursion of glamorous rock n’ roll are Showgirl Suicide, Lionsex and a bit of heavy, bluesy punk rock. I’ve been looking forward to this one too, apart from Spit Like This, I’ve seen all the bands and had a good time watching them, and if the headliners are in a similar niche, all the better.

Anti Vigilante upping the anté at Backstage

Backstage Productions return once again to put a couple more bands on in the halls of Stantonbury. The gig is partially a postponed one, if you remember February and all the snow that stopped most of the gigs, Backstage also got hit. It was meant to be a headline slot for local ska band, Anti Vigilante, so they make a return alongside a group of lads who go under the name of Duke of Marmalade. It feels a little weird when the gig starts and it’s still bright outside, but if that means summer is on the way then all the better.

lowerthanatlantis

Last Friday was another Craufurd day, and it was looking like a good one with five bands lined up for the gig and two of them causing a bit of fuss, namely Brides and Lower Than Atlantis. And for once, most of the acts are from out of town too, giving us a fresh look at more bands from out of town with Run! And Don Broco warming up the atmosphere, local support was also around with Visions Over Chaos, though not exactly in the best way…

The Graveline Ep: by Graveline

Back at the Pitz, not too long ago, there was a particular band that not only kicked off the night but almost stole the show, if you’ve read the review then you’ll know I’m talking about Graveline. The guys already had an Ep ready too, a four track introduction to their sound, a very rough-cut, old-school, whiskey-drinking mix that provides a bit of escapism from the overly technical and flashy flavours that are currently going around.

Graveline: A melodical battering ram!

A bit of an eclectic gig at The Pitz this time, pretty good if you don’t mind hearing something new but it doesn’t always bode well for ticket sales. In fact, the bands couldn’t get much more different tonight with progressive metal (Versus Akira) and pop-rock (Scrapbook Heroes) alongside straight-laced alternative rock (Altersketch) and hard rock (Graveline).

A Picture Perfect Sky: by Vindiction

Lets face it, melodic metal has been on the rise in MK quite recently, some bands cropping up not too long ago and having a go at it. Vindiction have been on the case for a bit longer though, it’s been well over a year since we seen them take on the Band Blitz. Their lineup and sound has changed through the times though, with the band now operating as a five-piece and recently finished recording their latest efforts for “A Picture Perfect Sky”.

Secure Beneath The Watchful Eyes

I remember reading an interesting article recently about the punk genre and the bands influenced by it. Quite a few of the old-school orientated fans and bands shown how punk was becoming watered down as it became less political. They had a good point too, pop-punk is especially suspect, though you could also see it as a totally independent genre. But all is not lost, Anti Vigilante had recently completed their album and politics are very much the focus of the material.

Electric Pennyland get the party started at MonkeyVision!

“Madness: The quality or condition of being insane.” Or in other words the Pitz last weekend as Monkey Vision took hold of the venue, it was definitely a bit of a bit of a workout for myself and the idea itself seems a bit out-of-the-box, even if it was planned down to the very last details, but all in a good way mind you. The idea is simple on paper, twenty bands represent twenty areas within the city, each have one song to make their appeal to the audience and judges. Oh, and they also only have three minutes to set themselves up, so you can imagine that the night was a bit of a rush for everyone. Still, it’s a unique night so it gets it’s own unique style of review, still, it’s a hell of a lot of bands so fasten your seatbelts…
