Geekage: Sonic 3

Now this one is going back a bit, did any of you even have a Mega Drive? Or did you grow up with a Playstation? Regardless, this could probably seem quite a strange article, among a lot of modern games with influences with music in a direct fashion, how could a 16-bit game have anything to do with it? Ladies and gents, I give you one of the many conspiracy theories in computer gaming…
I had this blog sitting on the unpublished list for a good long while, it felt a little incomplete. But seeing the late passing of Mr Jackson himself, I resolved to just get it up, not out of respect or disrespect but purely to share some old thoughts.
Back in the day, I had a Megadrive, it was my pride and joy and admittedly it still gets played more than my Xbox 360, I was pretty excited about a few games back when I was a kid and Sonic 3 was definitely one of them, seeing that I was a hardcore Hedgehog fan back then.
Wwhen I got the game, there was something I noticed about the sound of the background music, certain clips sounded a bit like a digitised Micheal Jackson, not just a few bits but quite a few parts of the soundtrack had whoops and shouts akin to the artist, I passed this off as either a coincidence or just a homage as at the time his music was still fairly popular.
But over time and getting the internet, I started learning of a conspiracy theory which is now old news/tatt to most gamers. It’s hard to explain exactly but most of it revolves around certain parts of the original score and certain sound clips and there may just be a good deal of pure coincidences, but if you’re interested then I’ve a few links you may want to check out…

Here’s a link to a site dedicated to the theory
And here’s another one
There’s a good few more sites out theer too, but these should give you enough info for you to make you’r mind up, what’s your opinion?
