The Craufurd seem to be having a good week, in the front of house the guys are celebrating a year’s anniversary of Underpass at the venue with the Peartree Bridge Family playing a lengthy set, in the back we have the return of some infectious pop punk electro noodlings with Yashin coming down for a show, then there’s the supports from local names like Firetone, Scared Of The Ocean and Embrace The Tide to boot too. Not to mention 80′s Matchbox B-Line Disaster the day after.

Backstage have their second gig on since their return and the numbers are still looking pretty healthy, with the headliners of the night it might not be surprising, Arms Of Atlas have been making waves and not just in the local area, though you’ll recognise some faces, that’s for granted. Support comes from Embrace The tide who are supplying some melodic hardcore to counterweight AoA’s poppy rock riffs though unfortunately the W.As had to bow out to some mishaps during setting up.

Though it might not be common knowledge, our concrete grid of a city does have a few hidden gems about among the better known venues and open mic nights. Granted, they do take a bit more of a hunt to find but they’re still some interesting points that can make a pretty good night, I managed to check one out at the Corner Cafe down at the Christ The Cornerstone church.

Down at Newport Pagnell, we get the chance to catch up with a few fairly familiar faces, the guys from Frantic Alice are no strangers to the local scene, despite any name changes or anything Jack, Will and Allonby are fairly acquainted with the whole sleaze rock slants and stick out like a sore thumb sitting in a corner at a pub dressed up like an 80′s timewarp. But attracting the odd look is one of the things that the guys do, showmanship doesn’t quite stop off the stage, as we find out.

Last weekend was a bit of hard work, but was also totally worth it. I’m sure that some of you know of Josh Timmins who writes for us every now-and-then, he came up with a charity gig to support Lupus awareness. The affliction has had some press with Lucy Vodden (as in “Lucy In The Sky…”) unfortunately passing away due to it and also with this being the time of year for Lupus awareness.

Some people say that a measure of a band is how many people they can drag into a show, we beg to differ here though, as how good a time a band has and how hard they play in a quiet show matters just as much. So here goes a gig that pretty much fits into that way of thinking, four bands who went into a quiet hall and still came out smiling…

If one MK band were to be classed as perfectionists, Heart Of A Coward would probably be that name to watch out for. When they first surfaced with their atmospheric breed of hardcore they promptly had an Ep up. Down the line a lot has admittedly changed, but it’s all the natural path down to focusing on the sound with the new lineup also having some effects on the HOAC sound…

When we first came across The Kranx at a Rock School event earlier on in the year, they seemed to be like any other young band, now they seem to be gripping the reigns of punk rock and becoming something a lot more in line with what they could be. First on the line is more of their own material, along with a development on their energetic performance, both featuring on their demo that they’ve released called “Off The Dots”.

Before AMPjam was starting up, a local band called Device released an album called Obstacles & Playgrounds, I remember being excited about it seeing that the guys were one of my favourite dynamic local bands and they were going all out to record it. Down the line things have changed, the band got a bit darker and more streamlined becoming Primal Device and re-releasing the album under the name of “Whilst We’re On The Subject”.
