Arms Of Atlas: Beach Boys, bottles & big riffs.

It had to happen sooner or later, of all places for doing an interview, we’re in a changing room. But it’s actually pretty much worth it as we get to catch up with what’s said to be one of the bands to watch out for, Arms Of Atlas made a good impression so far since we seen them at Backstage, and tonight we catch the band post sound-check for a gig at the Pitz, one which the guys hope will get a good crowd in .

Scared Of The Ocean at Underpass

There’s one drink I can never stomach, the guys at the Craufurd, where I’ve ended up tonight can vouch for that. A certain band called Terrorvision also sang about it, their frontman making an appearance in Laikadog who are headlining tonight. It’s a hard one to gauge in terms of a turnout, but the supports of Last Of Our Heroes and Scared Of The Ocean seem a good combo as it is having both played the Pulp night not too long ago.

Arms Of Atlas (self titled debut)

Having seen the band only a couple of times, it’s already been quite apparent that Arms Of Atlas seem to be making a bit of an impression on the younger crowds, as an early introduction to their sounds  the band released a special edition two-track Ep that the first wave of fans have been able to get their hands on, including ourselves. At only a couple of tracks long, it’s undoubtedly just a taste of what’s to come but this one has left a fair few mouths watering for more, time to see what all the fuss is about…

The Rabhus @ Beatdown, ball-shakingly loud stuff.

Back once again at the Sno! Bar on Thursday, but the night has a good few names that are new to me and ripe for checking out. The main deal of the gig, however, is the appearance of “The Rabhus”, those of you who don’t know the name should check out more on Raging Speedhorn and learn that the Rabhus’ frontman is the one and the same John Loughlin who provided the vocal grit for the former band. The support isn’t too bad either with Carpathia and Born From Ashes warming us up.

Ghosts On Pegasus Bridge at the Craufurd

The Craufurd plays host to the final, final goodbye to Me Vs The Atlantic, the guys have been on-off and on again through the past year with appearances at Livezone and The Pitz, but tonight is their last gig before truly calling it quits. The night also has some other big news too, Arusha Accord are no strangers to the “Crauf” and have impressed a great deal so far, while we also get to see Canadian noise-heads Textbook Tragedy. Sounding a good one to you?

Clothing launch? Hell yes!

“PULP” is currently one of those words that’s cropping up in the local scene, but it isn’t a band or a venue, but a venture into the world of clothing with some local muso people at the helm along with the store pretty much just opening opposite HMV. The launch night is over at the Sno! Bar, a venue we haven’t covered in too long a space of time, so this joint gig from the Beatdown and Pulp guys was a good chance to dive back into the place.

I never would have imagined taking this shot back in college.

Being one of those kids who grew up through the nineties, I could safely say that my adolesence was spent listening to a lot of certain punk bands, Ash being one of them thanks to my brother. Times change though, and though the band aren’t knee deep in what’s considered to be the “popular music scene” these days, Wheeler, McMurray and Hamilton still reside as heroes from teenage years, in other words their gig at the Pitz was not going to be passed up by myself, in fact the show swiftly sold out, usually a sign for a damn good night.

Graveline bring up the party spirit on Halloween.

Not every gig we go to goes exactly to plan, in this case we went to the annual Madcap Halloween bash that had Graveline taking the lead with support from various young bands. It’s unfortunate that Madcap isn’t used for that many gigs these days, as the hall’s played host to a couple of my favourite gigs with the likes of Titan System and Six Point Five playing here. But at least there are goings on tonight…

Backing vocals, anyone...?

The Craufurd serves as a home for the hardcore fans once again with the windows rattling with detuned bass-lines and hefty drumming during soundcheck. This time it’s the Underpass crew doing the honours though, but there are still some familiar faces from the Wreck Your Life crowd around to see who’s making the noise tonight. The answer to that is This Is Colour who have taken the top bill for the night, while support comes from The Day Before Moretality, Silent Screams and Legions.
