It’s been a while since the last blog, let alone the last “”Geekage” corner. So the nerdgasms return once again for another round of music and videogames. This time the old chestnut that is “Super Mario” and there’s been a few things I’ve noticed on the web that have led up to this, so if you can bear with this immature geek for a couple of seconds, take a pew and take a gander.

The Craufurd was once again a venue to check out on the last weekend, the name tonight being the Japanese Voyeurs. Unlike what you might find from a Google search (as the Frantic Alice crew found…) these guys are a London-based, sleazy grunge-fest who bring teenage angst back to the forefront of music. Along for the ride are the sleaze of Lionsex and Frantic Alice, plus also a bit of a wild card with Equinox and their new lineup being on the bill too. Downtune your guitars and hold on, this one could get bumpy…

Into the first gig of 2010 then I guess, and the Craufurd has claimed the first of the gig weekends, starting with a bit of a rock showcase with a lot of people turning up for Deaf Havana who have been attracting a bit of attention since their second album, Along for the ride are some familiar faces with both Lecarla and Arms Of Atlas chipping in for a couple of sets, plus some confident support from Exit Avenue and The First. The new year looking busy already? Good signs indeed.

It’s been hard to believe that AMPjam has been running for two years (more or less now) and the site has come some way from it’s forum based beginnings at Omninja.com. So, how have the past two years been? Trends in local music have come and gone from the growth of the indie scene about two years back to the flourish of local metal bands, in other words things can change a lot in that amount of time.

Christmas time hits the Craufurd in Wolverton as the festive gigs take over once again at the venue, this time being organised by Arms Of Atlas. The snow also hits hard with Arms Of Atlas’ Tyler and Jim freezing on the door and one of the bands dropping out due to the travel conditions. But that still leaves three bands on the bill with syntho-matic rock upstart basis of Kids Picked Last and Casio Kid, plus the guys of Arms Of Atlas themselves giving the cold season a bit of spicing up with a bit of a festive twist.

As a few of you know, every once in a while we get a look at a band from further affield. In this case Bicester down on the Oxfordshire territories. The name? The Clare Free band, a four piece fronted by the aforementioned lady herself on vocals and guitar. Clare Free and her band have been busy on a new album soon to be unveiled, but for now they’ve been supplying a few snippets with a demo of what’s to come.

(Back in 2008, MK Theatre had a bit of an event on early in the year showcasing a bit of local music, the article was first posted back on Omninja.com and after remembering the awesome end to the gig, it’s now back onto the AMPjam archives)
Something’s on at the Theatre, something a bit different. Little acts sparking off here and there amongst the tours and workshops, one certain area has me interested today though, the Garden Room (usually for the VIPs) has been opened up into a bit of a cosy space with chairs and sofas surrounding an open stage, it’s here where most of the live music will be and where I will spend most of the time munching on the popcorn, taking snaps and writing notes. Along the way are some friendly familiar faces, some wonderfully distracting workshops and acting pieces and a snack bar with everything half-price, ladies and gents, welcome to MKT!
