(Back in 2008, MK Theatre had a bit of an event on early in the year showcasing a bit of local music, the article was first posted back on Omninja.com and after remembering the awesome end to the gig, it’s now back onto the AMPjam archives)
Something’s on at the Theatre, something a bit different. Little acts sparking off here and there amongst the tours and workshops, one certain area has me interested today though, the Garden Room (usually for the VIPs) has been opened up into a bit of a cosy space with chairs and sofas surrounding an open stage, it’s here where most of the live music will be and where I will spend most of the time munching on the popcorn, taking snaps and writing notes. Along the way are some friendly familiar faces, some wonderfully distracting workshops and acting pieces and a snack bar with everything half-price, ladies and gents, welcome to MKT!

(More stuff for the retro section, local indie film maker Mark Houssart reminded me of a particular article of another memorable night that featured film and music, courtesy of Primal Device’s Dan McGrath at Closed Captioned.)
Tonight took me a bit further afield than usual, a short fifteen minute train ride and it’s over to Northampton, though to be more specific I’m at the “Wedgewood”. Downstairs we have a very standard affair for the Kerrang! reading youth with all the obvious tunes on and posters adorning the walls. On the other hand, upstairs is claimed by Closed Captioned and we start to get more arty with what’s going on, a line-up of bands with a film preceding them, it’s a brave step to go into the more alternative and thoughtful scene, something that CC specialize in.

(This particular gig was a good-un from a while back (May, 2007 if I memory serves well…) and one of the best Pitz gig I’ve ever had a chance to check out, this review hasn’t seen the light of day for a while though, but it finally makes a return today. Ladies & gents, I give you Ginger & The Wildhearts)
This gig has been anticipated by quite a few people, myself included. The mere name is unsuprisingly known throughout the world of rock and the Pitz gig has generated a lot of interest in the region, hell with it, theres even a daunting queue at the bar. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past god-knows how long, then the Wildhearts are a long running band with geordie frontman, Ginger, taking the lead through some hard hitting rock that will take more than a few sentances to describe. If you’ve been living with the full knowledge about The Wildhearts, you know exactly what to expect, so buckle up!

Sunday is a new day and also totally different for day two of the Big Moo, a slight shift means that most of the early acts are DJs and dance crews which is entertaining in itself, but we’re here to see the bands so I grab my acoustic out and have a strum backstage. Sunday also comes with a lot of rain at the start too, many of the stage crew, performers along with me and Steffi get under the cover of the backstage tent, once again the acoustic comes out and things develop a bit more with a cover of the James Bond theme being created with vocals, guitar, harmonica and some slick freestyle rapping from the gaggle formed out the back…
