Rock School was definitely one of the biggest work-outs last year, eleven young bands with only two songs to get the votes from the audience, a lot of running around not just on our end but also for the stage hands and bands backstage. The turnout seems to make it worth it though, the place is near enough packed with young peeps supporting their school mates. Still, with eleven bands on it’s going to be a bit of a long night, and incidentally quite a lot to read, don’t let that put you off though…

Keeper Of the Rifle @ The Pitz

Pitz! Good! Hardcore! Also good! No barrier between the stage and the potential of windmillers, maybe not so enticing. However, it does allow the gig to be a little more intimate as we have a handful of heavy bands at the Pitz’ first gig of 2010. Hard Target are the main players tonight, though there’s some support from St. Albans in the form of Run!, who aren’t strangers to MK at all. Other than that, Legions are along for the ride with their minimalist hardcore and a new post rock name has also risen up with Keeper Of The Rifle.

Tesseract @ The Pitz

The Pitz has given me some good memories of Christmas, back in the day I remember Ollie & The Wallies, Son Of A Gun/Slideshow and Titan System giving a packed house a good time, with Titan System throwing chocolate into the audience, mad times! Tonight has a bit more of an inclination with those times than recent years, the bands tonight being quite far apart as far as genres are concerned. Heart Of A Coward have the aggressive screams, This Contrast Kills supply the punk and Tesseract have the progressive moods. Unfortunately Godsacksman don’t make it to the night, but sod the snow, there’s still some good bands on.

Nov.04.09

I never would have imagined taking this shot back in college.

Being one of those kids who grew up through the nineties, I could safely say that my adolesence was spent listening to a lot of certain punk bands, Ash being one of them thanks to my brother. Times change though, and though the band aren’t knee deep in what’s considered to be the “popular music scene” these days, Wheeler, McMurray and Hamilton still reside as heroes from teenage years, in other words their gig at the Pitz was not going to be passed up by myself, in fact the show swiftly sold out, usually a sign for a damn good night.

I miss Chris' old hairdo...

It’s been a while, but we’re back at the Pitz once again and this time BBC Introducing are taking the helm with the featured bands tonight. The gig takes a host of talent from inside and outside of Milton Keynes with some familiar names with Firetone and Hiding In Reno while Starseed and This Part Is Us are definitely some new sounds to our ears. With that in mind, the sound of sound-checking is, as ever, our cue to get up front to see who’s causing some fuss tonight.

Logan, Glasgow bred rock at The Pitz

It’s a weird night, last time the Pitz was heaving with Equality Rocks, but it’s fairly quiet tonight and it’s pretty much the only gig on in the area, it looks like last night’s festivities worn out a few people, or their wallets. But a gig is a gig, and tonight’s lineup isn’t too bad, Scottish rockers, Logan, are on the top of the bill tonight with some support from Imicus, Symbo and Solusunder. And it turned out to be a fairly enjoyable gig too.

The King Blues @ Equality Rocks, The Pitz

The Pitz is looking well and truly alive tonight, and it ought to be with what’s going on. Tonight is the first (of hopefully many) Equality Rocks nights. In short, a few people from local bands also work with adults who have learning difficulties and brought the idea together with their co-workers not only to raise awareness but also to give a chance of helping out and enjoying the gig atmosphere to people who haven’t had the chance before, something we can sometimes take for granted. The bill is a fairly sweet one tonight too, with acoustic troubadour Dave House and the Jacobys bringing up some noise along with some DJs and capped off by none other than The King Blues.

Spit Like This: Sex, Drugs and Heavy Metal @ The Pitz

Back to The Pitz tonight, and this time it’s pretty much sleaze central, Spit Like This are the main players tonght fully decked out in leather, fantastic hair and big riffs. Supporting them in their incursion of glamorous rock n’ roll are Showgirl Suicide, Lionsex and a bit of heavy, bluesy punk rock. I’ve been looking forward to this one too, apart from Spit Like This, I’ve seen all the bands and had a good time watching them, and if the headliners are in a similar niche, all the better.

Graveline: A melodical battering ram!

A bit of an eclectic gig at The Pitz this time, pretty good if you don’t mind hearing something new but it doesn’t always bode well for ticket sales. In fact, the bands couldn’t get much more different tonight with progressive metal (Versus Akira) and pop-rock (Scrapbook Heroes) alongside straight-laced alternative rock (Altersketch) and hard rock (Graveline).

Electric Pennyland get the party started at MonkeyVision!

“Madness: The quality or condition of being insane.” Or in other words the Pitz last weekend as Monkey Vision took hold of the venue, it was definitely a bit of a bit of a workout for myself and the idea itself seems a bit out-of-the-box, even if it was planned down to the very last details, but all in a good way mind you. The idea is simple on paper, twenty bands represent twenty areas within the city, each have one song to make their appeal to the audience and judges. Oh, and they also only have three minutes to set themselves up, so you can imagine that the night was a bit of a rush for everyone. Still, it’s a unique night so it gets it’s own unique style of review, still, it’s a hell of a lot of bands so fasten your seatbelts…
